Alvin Cheung is a first year trainee solicitor in our Hong Kong office - currently on secondment in Tokyo.
When did you join the firm?
I joined Hogan Lovells to start my training contract in September 2010.
What have been your career highlights?
The highlight of my career so far has been the feeling of closing of a major transaction (in the Banking group) followed by flying off to my six month secondment in the Tokyo office the following day. Even as a trainee, I was given a vast amount of responsibility and felt in control of the transaction I was involved in. The satisfaction we get from a "job well done" is what inspires us to be good lawyers. I then immediately flew to Tokyo to start my secondment. To be given the opportunity to work in such an exciting and interesting country is a once in a lifetime experience which I thoroughly enjoyed.
What is the best thing about Hogan Lovells?
The diverse practice, the openness of the people and the friendly working environment. Hogan Lovells is a law firm that understands and supports everyone's personal circumstances.
What makes Hogan Lovells different?
Hogan Lovells manages to provide a working environment that is comfortable whilst producing a world-class legal service. The firm has benefitted massively from the merger without sacrificing any of its traditional values and I have experienced these benefits first hand by working on deals from our new US offices.
