General Information

In our Hong Kong office we offer five internship programmes of three weeks each, which run in Summer (June and July) and Winter (December and January).  Applications for Summer 2012 programmes are now closed.  Applications for our December and January programmes (2012-13) opened on 1 April and will close on 30th September.  Offers are made on a rolling basis so it is best to apply early.

We take up to 7 interns on each Summer programme and up to 5 interns on each Winter programme.

The three week structured programme includes work on live client matters in two departments, as well as formal skills and legal training, group and individual exercises and social and pro bono activities.

All internship programmes will conclude with an interview for a training contract.  Our Summer 2012 programmes will include an interview for a 2014 training contract.  Those for Winter 2012-13 will include an interview for a 2015 training contract.

Who is eligible?

We are looking for candidates with excellent academic records, good commercial and current awareness and strong communication skills.  Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is most important.  Cantonese and Mandarin skills are also strongly desirable.

How to apply?

Please apply using our online application form - see link above right.

When to apply?

Candidates should apply in the penultimate year of their legal studies. Our Summer programmes (June and July 2012) will be open for application from 1 October 2011 until 28 February 2012.

As offers are made on a rolling basis it is best to apply early.

Application Procedure

After completion of our online form, your application will be reviewed and successful applicants will have a short telephone interview with our Legal Development Manager.  The interview will focus on aspects of your form, particularly your legal and commercial awareness and outside interests.  If you are successful at this stage you will be referred to a second telephone interview with a partner on our Graduate Recruitment Committee.

Successful candidates will be offered a place on our internship programme and invited to indicate which two departments they would like to work in.  At the end of the internship programme there is an interview for a training contract, before a panel consisting of two partners from the Graduate Recruitment Committee and the Legal Development Manager.

Those with Chinese language proficiency will also be tested on their spoken and written skills at this time.
