There are no fixed application dates or deadlines at Hogan Lovells in Germany. Individuals interested in doing their law firm or elective placements with us should apply as soon as the timetable for their Referendariat has been finalised. Interns should apply three to four months before their desired start date.
At Hogan Lovells Germany, the application procedure begins with an application preferably submitted via our online portal. You can also apply by email or post. So that we can build up an initial picture, we require a full application, which we believe includes a covering letter, a CV and all relevant certificates/letters of reference. Proof of examinations/Staatsexamen [or equivalent examinations] sat to date, as well as letters of reference from placements and your Abitur [or equivalent highest school-leaving examination grades] certificate, are of particular interest. Further proof of additional academic qualifications, internships and language courses is welcome.
The selection procedure for associates generally involves two interviews. The first interview provides the opportunity for a two-way exchange of information concerning each side's expectations and whether or not they can imagine working together. This interview is usually held with a partner from the desired specialist area and with the partner responsible for HR at that office. The second interview gives the applicant the opportunity to meet more partners from the firm. You can also go to dinner with your potential colleagues and talk to them to find out more about Lovells and our day-to-day work without any partners being present.
